Hush Original Artwork: Dirty Bomb

We are excited to be able to offer our Hush collectors the opportunity to purchase a stunning Hush original work of art titled “Dirty Bomb”. This provocative and beautiful piece was executed in 2007 and measures 60x90cm. It has been consigned to us for a limited period at a fantastic price. As Hush’s market prices are souring, we believe this Dirty Bomb represents an excellent opportunity to acquire an original artwork by an iconic figure in the Urban Art scene.

Hush artworks at Moniker Art Fair

Moniker Art Fair 2012 certainly lived up to the hype. A plethora of established and great up and coming artists were on show – turning the village underground into a visual spectacle. Whilst newcomers Amanda Marie and Ben Slow were busy adorning the gigantic wall outside the exhibition, seasoned pro Hush was inside speaking with fellow art enthusiasts – the occasional dash to a desk to sign a new batch of prints that would come off the press as a girl equipped with a hairdryer would furiously attempt to dry them in time.

Here are some pics from the show

Hush Sirens prints: Siren in Motion & The 3 Sirens

We are delighted to be able to offer Hush’s latest Sirens prints: Siren in Motion (Single Siren) and The 3 Sirens (AP). The prints were released across Australia, US & Europe during his critically acclaimed Australia show at the Metro gallery, and as expected sold out in seconds. The popularity of Hush’s latest offering is testament to his souring reputation in the urban art world. Widely known as one of the hardest working and technically gifted artists, his style continues to evolve and impress across the world.

The 24 colour screen prints plus varnishing are prepared on 300gsm Somerset Velvet paper with collage pattern emboss in the image and crest. The Siren in motion print is from an edition of 150 and The 3 Sirens is a wonderful artists proof edition of just 10.

Hush: Artist Profile

Hush’s graphic design and art career has taken him around the world – throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. However it was Hush’s opportunity to work as a toy designer in Japan that provided his most profound influence. As an outsider, Hush was able draw upon his experience of Japan’s largely misunderstood culture – a culture entwined in history and also at the forefront of the modern world – to create art that not only captured the beauty and intricacies of this fusion but did so with technical prowess. It was Hush’s technical ability as a street artist that first brought him notoriety in the UK. His multi-layered stencil and mixed media canvases sit effortlessly beside Banksy’s and his geisha girls adorn the covers of street art books.

There is no doubt that Hush’s name will be synonymous with the street art movement in years to come. But there is much more to Hush’s art than beautiful geishas and scantily clad lolitta girls. Hush’s art represents a change in Japan “the escape from the constraints of traditions, the contrasts between old and new, the past meeting the future and the fusion of Eastern and Western culture” (Hush 2011)

Hush’s sell out shows across the globe – New York City, Miami, London, Basel, San Francisco and Berlin, and in particular Los Angeles – a place he is never too far away from – have propelled Hush’s popularity.

Hush’s prints and originals sell out in minutes. We are proud to offer a selection of our favourite Hush pieces available through Kumi Contemporary. Hush’s screenprints are signed numbered and dated and often heavily handfinished with paint. Hush’s originals are multi textured mixed media paintings on large canvas.

Welcome to Kumi Contemporary

We’d like like to begin our very first post by welcoming you to Kumi Contemporary. Kumi has been our passion for the last few years and we are overjoyed to have finally launched the website.

Kumi Contemporary was conceived with the primary aim of sharing the beauty of Japanese Contemporary art with collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Kumi literally means ‘everlasting beauty‘ – a testament to the beautiful artwork and a remarkable culture.

Japanese post-modern art is thriving. Takashi Murakami’s Superflat movement has paved the way for a newer generation of young artists: Chiho Aoshima, Mr, Ai Yamaguchi. Japanese influences in the street art have helped shape a new art movement. Graffiti artists Aiko Nakagawa and Hush are two of the most recognisable names in the industry.

We’ll be updating the blog with our new artwork and also bringing you the latest Japanese Contemporary art news. You can subscribe to our RSS feed by clicking the RSS icon and sign-up to our newsletter using the link at the top.

We love hearing and talking about Japanese Art – so whether you’re a collector or an enthusiast, send us an email to say hello.
